I'm a little bit late in the mineral make-up bandwagon. Actually, I'm a little bit late in the make-up bandwagon since I consider make-up as putting on some lipstick and applying some pressed powder on face and that's about it. Dressing up means putting on eyeliner and mascara. So you can see I'm generally not a make-up person.
But then one morning I saw an infomercial for Bare Minerals and I was sort of impressed with their before and after pictures. I was all set to buy it but I was running late for Rachel's Gymboree class so the make-up had to wait.
When we finally got home, I was again set to purchase Bare Minerals on line after reading all those testimonials on how great it was. But I decided to delve a little deeper and looked for more reviews for mineral make-up. I'm glad I did since supposedly Bare Minerals contains bismuth oxychloride that can be an irritant to the skin. Well, I certainly don't need an irritant to my skin especially since the skin around my mouth area usually gets inflamed.
So, I looked for other alternatives and found Purely Cosmetic. It doesn't contain any bismuth nor it does have micronized particles (which they say can be also bad for you but since there are no studies on it yet it's really hard to say) and they have registered their products with the FDA. There stuff was also a bit cheaper than Bare Minerals.
Since I really wanted to try it out, I ordered a kit from them and excitedly was waiting on my purchase. I would ask Carlos everyday if anything came in the mail for me. When it finally arrived I was very excited. I quickly tore open the packaging, grabbed my goodies and tried it on.
I looked and I looked at myself trying to see if there is a difference. I really can't tell. I rationalized that well maybe because I'm not seeing myself in the natural light since its nighttime, maybe that's why.
The next morning, I put some of the mineral makeup on and looked and looked again. Is there a difference??? I asked Carlos if he could see any difference and he was hedging. He says the skin looks smoother but then I think he's just saying that. I tried again today and the make-up did provide some coverage but just like it's been told in those reviews you can hardly see that you're wearing any make-up.
I don't know how I fell about this make-up. I want to think that it's great and fantastic since I just plopped down a good bit of money on it. But truthfully, I really can't tell if there is a difference or not. I'll take photos next time and I'll let you be the judge of it.

it's funny i almost ordered that too. ended up not doing so 'cause knowing me, i don't really wear make up so it'll be a waste. :)
would love to see them on you. tc.
I've also mulled about trying mineral make up recently:
http://notsquare.blogspot.com/2009/02/mineral-make-up.html
but am too scared of the bad effects i cud get, like rashes and pimples.
FAYE: I'm trying it out today without the mineral make-up so I can see if there is a difference. But I know what you mean. I gave in to impulse buying :P
NOTSQUARE: On my readings it said that some mineral make-up contains bismuth oxychloride which can be an irritant. there are some users of bare minerals that complained of rashes when they used the make-up. They attributed it to the bismuth. What I'm using right now is bismuth free. My skin is also sensitive to things etc. So far, no reaction with the mineral make-up naman. I'll keep you posted on this.
pls do. thanks!
